Ancient Dion is located at the foot of Olympus, the mythological home of the twelve Olympian gods. The archeological site of Dion consists of two inextricably linked and equally important places, the Archaeological Park and the Archaeological Museum. There, the visitor will be introduced to the history of the place, knowing the findings brought to light by the archeological dig.
At the foot of Mount Olympus, we have the opportunity to follow a unique nature walk, walking parallel to the river Enipeas. Enjoy a wonderful walk, under the sound of the gurgling waters of the river with the smells, aromas and colors of nature to enchant you. Picturesque images, green landscapes, rich fauna and the fresh mountain air, compose an ideal environment for young and old!

Our excursion starts early in the morning from the center of Thessaloniki. We get on the bus at about 8.00 and start our journey. During the journey, which lasts about an hour and thirty minutes, we will learn some important information about our destination, Dion, which will allow us to understand in depth its many years of history, but also its special importance.
Our tour of Dion will be divided into two stages. First, we will walk in the open Archaeological site of Dion, the Archaeological Park, as it is commonly called, between the findings that testify to a glorious past and an uninterrupted presence in time – lasting 1000 years, from the 5th c. e.g. until the 5th c. A.D. An impressive enclosure embraces a number of buildings and sacred buildings, among which the sanctuary of the Zeus Maximus, the holu grove with the sanctuary of Demeter, the Hellenistic theater and the … villa of Dionysus stand out. The visitor is overwhelmed with awe as he walks among these findings of unique beauty.
Then, we will visit the Archaeological Museum of Dion, located at a distance of 500 m. from the entrance of the archeological park, where we will stay for about an hour and a half. There are exhibited the findings of the archaeological dig in sections corresponding to the area found. Also, on the first floor there are great findings from the excavations. In the basement of the Museum there is an educational exhibition on “Everyday life in ancient Dion”, enriched with a variety of audiovisual material.
We depart from Dion and head to Litochoro. There we will follow the river Enipeas, in a unique nature walk. In an all-green setting, starring the water element, we will walk and listen to mythological stories about the name of the river, the musician Orpheus and the beautiful Leto who bathed in its waters. After completing our walk, we return again to Litochoro, where we will enjoy our coffee and food. Then, we board the bus and take the way back, reaching back to Thessaloniki.
